Cavtatportal (Civil Society Association, namesake of the Cavtatportal.com) and Student Hall of Residence Dubrovnik have organized a lecture and open discussion titled: "The Calling: Sea Captain". The event was held on on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. on the Residence Hall's premises.

M
aster seaman Capt. Dubravko Sekondo kindly accepted the invite and delivered a lecture as part of the program titled Anticipatory development of KSAOs desireable in today's and tomorrow's labor market.

During his lecture and the subsequent open-question session, Cap. Sekondo ventured to portray truly all aspects of life at sea and its impact on the seamen, their familes and the society as a whole.

His penetrating insights interspersed with many real-life challenges analyzed via humouros anecdotes, followed by an fully open discussion that can be rightfully characterized as the no holds barred approach, held the audience of hopeful student-candidates and the present Residence Hall's employees spellbound for full two hours and left yearning for more.

'To Marusja', an evening filled both with joy and sadness

9/11/2015

Friday night with the Epidaurus Festival was rather special. And this for at least three reasons:  an exhibit of works by Luce Đuraš - the hommage to late beloved Cavtat's painter Marusja Brautović titled ‘To Marusja’,  piano recital by Marusja's grandson Teo Brautović and touching performance by Sophia Vaillant - an eminent French pianist.

As the festival's art director Ivana Marija Vidović pointed out, "this event at filled us all both with joy and sadness. For Marusja, our friend, mother, grandmother, an artist above all, a native of Cavtat and a beloved person had indeed left us a year ago but was here with us throughout this evening."

Tino Pattiera

Tino Pattiera was born in Cavtat on 27 June, 1890.

Prior to taking a repertory for which he became famous (although today he is, undeservedly, we might add, somewhat forgotten), he was notable in operetta.

About the Epidaurus Festival

In their own words: "The Epidaurus Festival is a festival of music which will also include other artistic events (drama, theatre, literature, poetry, various presentations, folklore, educative programmes, matinees for young talents, getting to know the area, its beauty, nature, tradition, etc.)."

Ivana Marija Vidović, Artistic director of the Epidaurus festival: (...)"My wish is that every sound produced at Epidaurus Festival would merge with Cavtat's magical hug, and that every word, every verse, whether sung or spoken, would, for centuries to come, continue to echo throughout its old streets, the very same ones that -- within and of themselves -- had been a stage for centuries already."
