Niko Koprivica

Niko Koprivica (Cavtat, 1889 - Dubrovnik, October 25, 1944) was a politician of the Croatian Peasant Party who was mayor of Dubrovnik in the final days of it being a part of the NDH (Independent State of Croatia, WW II). He was a lawyer by profession.
Koprivica was admitted to the Catholic Church's Order of St. Gregory the Great in 1926. He was a member of the Brethren of the Croatian Dragon and held the title of Dragon of Cavtat within the organization. Koprivica was selected by the city council to be mayor on October 13, 1944. Koprivica was killed by Yugoslav Partisans on October 25, 1944 and thrown into the Adriatic sea.
The currents carried his body to the island of Šipan where his friends secretly buried him. He was finally properly buried on October 10, 2008 after a funeral mass at the Assumption Cathedral in Dubrovnik. |
