Župa Dubrovačka
The picturesque basin of Župa Dubrovačka is filled with subtropical flora of magnificent natural beauty and this, in harmony with the admired beauty of the Adriatic, is perhaps why it is often called one of the most spectacular oases of the Dubrovnik Riviera.
Summer visitors appreciate Župa's many sand and/or gravel beaches. Župa Dubrovačka, in addition to the numerous villages along the Župa bay, is comprised of the several beautiful tourist settlements (Kupari, Srebreno, Mlini, Soline and Plat).
It is situated some 4 miles to the southeast of the historical Old Town (the city of Dubrovnik), while its northern side is bordered by a chain of steep hills. Mlini Mlini is an old historic settlement rich in fresh water, With the winning combo of its own small river, shallow beaches and sheltered bays, flower gardens and promenades, hotels and splendid summer houses, mild southern climate and vicinity to Dubrovnik's rich cultural heritage, it's no wonder that it gets majority vote as the most beautiful village in Župa Dubrovačka. When you stroll around you'll see numerous drinking water springs. Flocks of ducks inhabit the surrounding waters. In times past this water was used used in milling (to grind flour) and because it had so many of reliable water springs, Mlini became the center of the milling trade. Mlin is Croatian for mill (not hard to guess where Mlini's name came from). Srebreno Srebreno, a village neighboring Mlini, is covered in Mediterranean vegetation such as pine and palm trees. Its inhabitants have traditionally lived off of fishing and agriculture. Today, while you can certainly still buy the just caught fish, fresh vegetables and fruit, Srebreno is a primarily a touristy place (much like most of Dubrovnik Riviera). A long stretch of its sandy beach is rather enjoyable as well as safe for the children (shallow water). The surrounding mountains that protect Srebreno from northern winds are great for hikers wanting to explore the trails and nature lovers. For those desiring a quiet place in the vicinity of a large tourist destination Srebreno seems ideal. Privately offered rooms and apartments and two camping sites are comfortable and offer affordable accommodation for visitors. |
