Music & Word Festival: 'The Modernists', the top films and - next up - Yiquan

6/27/2013

Music & Word Festival made yet another evening artfully delicious, as the exhibit 'The Modernists' showcased some great artwork.  That in and by itself surely would have sufficed, but the organizors did not stop there: they offered their visitors the screening of the critically acclaimed films Bunarman, Plašitelj kormorana and Recikliranje -- all three award-winners at the Croatian Film Days.

Sure Nicholson said it in 'Chinatown' and Damon drop the same line in 'Good Will Hunting', but three is a charm, no? So, how do you like them apples!
Next event:  YIQUAN ( three-day workshop )

The three-day workshop on YIQUAN begins with a lecture on the said martial arts discipline, more precisely on the system of understanding of the human movement, that is, on the influence of the Western schools of thought on the body culture in China at the beginning of the 20 st.

Music & Word Festival: Sunday night rocked away with 'Atlantida', 'Modernists' opening on Wednesday

6/24/2013

The second week of this year's edition of the Music & Word Festival ended with a bang. Classic rock sounds meshed with "Atlantida's" hits from their new album Premalo za san (Too Little for a Dream) to bring rock sound to the space usually reserved for the traditional folk song and dance, the space used to only the sound of traditional Konavle string instruments such as ljerica and tamburica.

KUD Čilipi's terrace was wall-to-wall filled with audience of all ages that, judging by the ambiance and their smiles, loved both the old and the new "Atlantida's" hits. Cudos to the band!

Next Event: Art Exhibit and (Awarded) Film Screenings
Konavle Art (the association behind the Music & Word Festival) partnered up with the Dubrovnik Association of Fine and Applied Artists (ULIPUD) to create for their audiences a new event, a new delight.

What: Art Exhibit followed by Film Screenings

Where: Culture Center in Cavtat (close to Our Lady of the Snows)

When: Wednesday, June 26, 2013 @ 8,30 pm

Admission: FREE of charge

Music & Word Festival: Wind Quintet concert to follow Sunday's hilarious monocomedy

6/17/2013

Sunday evening (June 15) was fun at the Gruda Culture Center as Damir Mihanović Ćubi took stage with his monocomedy 'Whoever works goes on a hunger strike' (Ko radi štrajka od gladi').

The show potraying world according to Neven - a blue color worker who, in a simple yet witty manner, delivered criticism aimed at the country's socio-political reality (in part adjusted to the local conditions) - had the audience rolling with laughter.

Music & Word Festival continues on Wednesday June 19 with the Dubrovnik Wind Quintet (each musician is also a member of the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra).

Their programme includes compositions by such greats as J. C. Bach, F. Lhotka Kalinski, W. Kappa, H. Riethmuller and F. Farkas.

The concert will be held in the Pinacoteque (adjecent to St. Nicholas Church in Cavtat) starting at 9pm.

All are welcome to attend free of charge.

Music & Word Festival Has Begun!

6/17/2013

St. Nicholas church in Čilipi was full of spectators on Wednesday evening as the 7th edition of the Music & Word Festival started with a Bethoveen & co 'bang'. Needless to say, the well known Dubrovnik choir Libertas (conducted by Viktor Lenert) and the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Nicola Giuliani) brought waves of musical joy upon the audience.
Konavle Art and Music & Word Festival
Music & Word Festival begun in 2007 when the Konavle Art Association decided to 'refreshed the south of Croatia and restore to life some of the forgotten little places in southern Croatia.'

The importance of this project was recognized not only by the organizers and the audiences, but also from the sponsors such as the Konavle Municipality, the Tourist Board of Konavle, the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, the City of Dubrovnik, the Dubrovnik Airport and the Ministry of Tourism. Audiences delight in being able to enjoy great programme -- all free of charge.
