Cavtat seabed and beach cleaning event 2013 coming up

Beach and seabed cleaning endeavors have been ongoing in Cavtat for some years now. The first few years of the beach cleaning in Cavtat were truly amazing (and scary). Namely, each year it would take up to two semi-loads to truck away all the garbage that was found and taken out from the sea-bed around Cavtat.

The Bobara Association for Sports Fishing was the first to begin with these praiseworthy efforts. Soon, those fine volunteers were joined by Cavtat Youth Association, then by the Sailing Club Cavtat which spearheaded the efforts until 2012 when the town's committee took over.

The crucial assistance was given by the two scuba-diving clubs located in Cavtat ('Epidaurum' and 'Cavtat'), Konavle Sanitation and the Tourist Board of Konavle.

The Adriatic cleaning efforts, though praiseworthy are not unique.

For instance, Ocean Conservancy 'educates and empowers citizens to take action on behalf of the ocean.

Due to the public change of consciousness, nothwithstanding the continuous efforts on part of the volunteers (about 30 each year) to preserve the sea floor naturally beautiful and clean, there was much less garbage found recently.

This year's cleaning event in Cavtat will take place on Saturday, June 15th. All volunteers are welcome to join in.

Cavtat has greeted the International Worker's Day (May Day) with plenty of promissing sunshine.

With the sea temperature in Cavtat being at 18ºC (65ºF) and all of its beaches being bathed by warm and welcoming sun rays, there is no question whether the beach-going season is to begin.

The beaches beckon. . . so the only question is: Will you come?
